Apollonia + Ardenica Monastery Tour

On this excursion to Apollonia from Berat, we will explore one of the most significant archaeological sites in Albania, along with the treasures of the Byzantine monastery of Ardenica.

Apollonia + Ardenica Monastery Tour

We will meet at the Mangalemi Hotel in Berat and commence our excursion to Apollonia and the Ardenica Monastery. This trip includes a scenic drive and historical exploration of archaeological remains.

After approximately one hour and fifteen minutes of driving, we will reach the Archaeological Park of Apollonia. A guided tour will reveal the site, known as Little Athens.

During the tour, we will discuss the city founded in 588 BC by Greek settlers and examine significant remnants such as the Hellenistic theatre, triumphal arch, agora, colonnade, and gymnasium. Other highlights include the monument of Agonothetes, Odeon, library, and villas featuring mosaic floors.

After the tour, we will pause for lunch before proceeding to the Monastery of Ardenica.

Upon arrival, we will explore the interior of this temple built in 1282 by Byzantine emperor Andronicus. We will also visit the church of St. Mary, the hermitage of St. Triadhe, and the mill. This location is one of Albania's prominent historical and religious monuments.

After eight hours of activity, we will return to Berat.
