The Story Behind the Expedition

Immerse yourself in the 1868 German expedition involving two ships: Germania and Hansa. The Hansa became trapped in ice and, fearing the ship would sink, the captain ordered provisions moved to the ice sheets. They constructed a shelter and endured a harsh winter. After the ship sank on October 22, the crew drifted south on melting ice, eventually reaching Greenland's southernmost mission on June 13, 1870, followed by a return to Germany.
