Step back in time and learn about the history of the Cold War in Berlin with this Berlin Wall tour. You'll walk through the remains of the wall and discover what life was like in a divided city.
Berlin Wall Tour
After the Allied victory in 1945, Germany was divided into four parts: France, Britain, The USA, and the USSR. Berlin itself was also divided with the deterioration of relationships leading to the construction of the Berlin Wall in 1949, which divided the capital into East and West. This tour explores the stalemate between East and West Germany.
The tour starts near the Tränenpalast (Palace of Tears) subway stop, covering significant Cold War locations. Our first stop is the Nordbahnhof ghost station, located at the edge of "the two Berlins." Next, we visit the Bernauer Strasse Memorial, the best-preserved section of the 155 kilometers that once divided Berlin. The guide will share the Wall's history and stories of those who risked their lives for freedom.
We'll walk through the 'death strip' to view the only section where both layers of the Wall are intact, alongside the watchtower and the Church of Reconciliation.
After a three-hour tour, we will conclude and say our goodbyes.
