Berlin Wall Tour
- 3 Stunden
Step back in time and learn about the history of the Cold War in the German capital with this Berlin Wall tour. You'll walk through the remains of the wall as you discover what life was like in a totally divided city.
Berlin Wall Tour
Following the Allied victory in 1945, Germany was divided into four parts controlled by the Allied forces: France, Britain, the USA, and the USSR. Within the Russian zone, Berlin was also divided, leading to the construction of the Berlin Wall in 1949, which physically separated East and West. This tour explores the historical context of the division.
We will meet near the Brandenburger subway stop and begin our tour of significant Cold War locations in the city.
Our first stop will be the Nordbahnhof ghost station, located on the edge of "the two Berlins." Here, you'll learn about its historical significance.
Next, we will view the Berlin Wall at the Bernauer Strasse Memorial, the best-preserved section of the 155 kilometers (96 miles) that once divided the city. The guide will share stories of the Wall's construction and the fugitives who risked their lives to reunite with their loved ones during tense moments.
We will walk through the 'death strip' to see the only location in Berlin where both layers of the Wall remain intact, along with the watchtower and the Church of Reconciliation.
After a three-hour tour, we'll conclude our experience.
