San Juan Chamula & Zinacantán Tour
At the time indicated, we'll pick you up from your hotel in Tuxtla Gutiérrez and set off for San Juan Chamula.
In San Juan Chamula, you'll see that many of the local residents are Tzotzil people, part of the Mayan culture. We'll visit the San Juan Bautista temple, an example of religious syncretism. Various celebrations, involving rituals and prayer, are held inside the church, so pay attention to the details.
Next, you'll visit the local cemetery, where dry leaves atop wooden crosses symbolize communication with the underworld, an ancestral tradition.
We'll then travel to Zinacantán to visit the Church of San Sebastián Mártir and learn about the dark legends and ancestral rites associated with this place. Afterwards, we'll meet a local family that manufactures products using a backstrap loom, which you may find interesting. If you wish, you can also try a traditional local dish in their home.
Finally, after 7 hours, we'll return to Tuxtla Gutiérrez, where you'll be taken back to your hotel.
