San Juan Chamula & Zinacantán Tour
At the time indicated, we'll pick you up from your hotel in Tuxtla Gutiérrez and set off for San Juan Chamula.
In San Juan Chamula, you’ll see that many local residents are Tzotzil people, part of the Mayan culture. We'll visit the San Juan Bautista temple, an example of religious syncretism, where various celebrations mixing rituals and prayer take place inside the church.
Next, we’ll visit the local cemetery, featuring dry leaves atop wooden crosses, representing an ancestral tradition and communication with the underworld.
We’ll then travel to Zinacantán to visit the Church of San Sebastián Mártir and learn about the dark legends and ancestral rites there. Afterwards, we’ll meet a local family that manufactures products with a backstrap loom. If you choose, you can also try a traditional local dish in their home.
Finally, we’ll return to Tuxtla Gutiérrez, where you will be taken back to your hotel after 7 hours.
