San Juan Chamula & Zinacantán Tour
At the specified time, we will pick you up from your hotel in Tuxtla Gutiérrez and depart for San Juan Chamula.
In San Juan Chamula, you will encounter the Tzotzil people, part of Mayan culture. We will visit the San Juan Bautista temple, noting its representation of religious syncretism. Various celebrations that combine rituals and prayer take place inside the church, requiring your attention to detail.
You will then explore the local cemetery, where dry leaves are placed on wooden crosses, symbolizing an ancestral tradition for communicating with the underworld.
Next, we will head to Zinacantán to see the Church of San Sebastián Mártir and learn about the dark legends and ancestral rites associated with it. Following this, we will visit a local family who produces goods with a backstrap loom. You may also have the opportunity to sample a traditional local dish in their home.
Finally, we will return to Tuxtla Gutiérrez, where you will be taken back to your hotel after a duration of 7 hours.
