On this hiking tour around Etna and the Bove Valley, we'll follow the Schiena dell'Asino trekking route, one of the easiest trekking routes in this natural park.

Bove Valley + Mount Etna Hiking Tour

At the indicated time, we'll meet at the Schiena dell'Asino car park to start the hiking route in Etna and the Bove Valley.

The hike will ascend from 5906 to 6463 feet (1800 to 1970 meters) along the Schiena dell'Asino trail. The trail's name refers to a rock formation we'll encounter during the hike.

We will pass through pine forests and view ancient solidified lava flows while enjoying views of the Sicilian coast and the Ionian Sea.

During the hike, the guide will explain the formation of Etna and its caves, and the evolution of its landscapes. We'll also explore the relationship between this volcano and the culture and way of life in Sicily.

Upon reaching the end of the trail, we'll admire the Bove Valley, an extensive depression over 5 miles (8 kilometers) long located on the eastern side of Etna. The volcanic sand creates a desert-like appearance similar to a lunar landscape.

After taking in the panoramic views, we'll begin our descent along the Espalda del Burro, enjoying a different perspective of the Bove Valley and passing near a large black sand channel and a volcanic cave.

We'll complete the trekking route in a total of 3 to 4 hours, returning to the starting point.
