Experience the luxury of the Belle Époque and the charm of the Roaring Twenties on this guided tour of Biarritz, located in the French Basque Country.
Activity Details
The guided tour of Biarritz begins at the entrance of the Casino Barrière, offering a panoramic view of the Atlantic. We will discuss the exclusivity of Biarritz as a coastal town while exploring tales from the Belle Époque (1871-1914) and the “Roaring Twenties.”
We will visit the Great Beach of Biarritz, popular with surfers, and walk the promenade, reflecting on the 17th and 18th centuries and pirate-related events. A stop will be made at the Hôtel du Palais, where we will learn about the marriage between Eugénie de Montijo and Napoleon III.
Continuing to the other end of the beach, we will view the church of Saint Eugénie, dedicated to the emperor’s wife. Following the coastal path, we will pass the Biarritz Aquarium before reaching the Rocher de la Vierge or Rock of the Virgin, accessed via a footbridge over the Atlantic.
The tour concludes at this site after an hour and a half walk.
