Activity Details
At the indicated time, we'll start our guided tour of Biarritz at the main entrance of the Casino Barrière, from where we'll enjoy a panoramic view of the Atlantic.
Next to this building, we will discover why Biarritz is one of the most exclusive coastal towns in Aquitaine. We will listen to anecdotes from the Belle Époque, a significant period for the city from 1871 to 1914, as well as the “Roaring Twenties.”
At the foot of the casino, we will find the Great Beach of Biarritz, popular with surfers. We'll walk along the promenade to reflect on episodes from the 17th and 18th centuries, including pirate stories.
At one end of the beach, we will stop in front of the Hôtel du Palais and learn about the marriage of Eugénie de Montijo and Napoleon III, who promoted this palace-hotel.
Continuing at the other end of the beach, we will view the architecture of the church of Saint Eugénie, built in honour of the emperor's wife.
Following a path parallel to the coast, we will pass the Biarritz Aquarium and arrive at the Rocher de la Vierge or Rock of the Virgin. Here, we will cross a footbridge over the Atlantic to access the islet.
The tour will conclude after an hour and a half at this point.
