Activity Details
Our guided tour of Biarritz commences at the main entrance of the Casino Barrière, offering a panoramic view of the Atlantic.
Adjacent to this luxurious building, we will delve into why Biarritz is considered one of the most exclusive coastal towns in Aquitaine. We will share anecdotes from the Belle Époque period (1871-1914) and the subsequent “Roaring Twenties.”
At the Great Beach of Biarritz, popular among surfers, we will stroll the promenade, reflecting on the area's history from the 17th and 18th centuries, including significant pirate-related events.
We will pause in front of the Hôtel du Palais to discuss the history of Eugénie de Montijo and Napoleon III, the palace's patrons.
Continuing our exploration at the beach's other end, we will admire the church of Saint Eugénie, dedicated to the emperor's wife.
Following the coastal path, we will pass by the Biarritz Aquarium before reaching the Rocher de la Vierge or Rock of the Virgin. This site features a carving of the virgin and is accessed via a footbridge over the Atlantic.
The tour concludes after an hour and a half walk at this final point.
