Discover the historical heritage of Vitoria on this day trip, which includes visits to the Añana Salt Flats and the Vizcaya Suspension Bridge.
Day Trip Details
At the indicated time, we will meet at the Tourist Office in Bilbao and depart for Vitoria-Gasteiz. After one hour, we will arrive in the capital of Alava.
We will take a guided walking tour of the historic center of Vitoria, including the Plaza de la Virgen Blanca and the Basque Parliament. The tour will also feature the Cathedral of Santa María, known for its medieval architecture that inspired Ken Follet's novel "The Pillars of the Earth."
Following the city tour, we will travel to the Añana Salt Flats to learn about the production of Añana salt, an important resource since the Middle Ages.
Next, we will proceed to Orduña and then cross the scenic Ayala Valley, concluding with lunch in Balmaseda.
After lunch, we will visit the industrial area of Portugalete, where we will cross the Bilbao estuary via the Vizcaya Suspension Bridge, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the first footbridges in history, inaugurated in the late 19th century.
Finally, we will arrive in the Las Arenas neighborhood of Getxo and then return to Bilbao, ending the trip after a total of 9 hours.
