Vitoria Day Trip
After pickup at the meeting point, we'll depart from Bilbao towards Vitoria-Gasteiz. One hour later, we'll reach the capital of Alava.
A guided walking tour will take us through the historic center of Vitoria. We will explore the Plaza de la Virgen Blanca and visit notable sites such as the Cathedral of Santa María, which inspired Ken Follet’s novel "The Pillars of the Earth".
After the city tour, we'll proceed to the Añana Salt Flats. In the "Salt Valley", we will learn about the production of Añana salt, which thrived during the Middle Ages, making it a key salt mine on the Iberian Peninsula. The tour will continue to Orduña to understand its unique features in Álava.
We will then cross the scenic Ayala Valley and have lunch in Balmaseda. Post-lunch, we will proceed to the industrial area of Portugalete and cross the Bilbao estuary via the Vizcaya Suspension Bridge, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the first footbridges in the world, inaugurated in the late 19th century.
On the opposite side, we will visit Las Arenas in Guecho before returning to Bilbao around 5 pm.
