Free Walking Tour Details

On the day of the activity, we'll meet at the Advanced Gate in Birgu at the scheduled time. The tour includes exploring squares and hidden gems, connecting with Birgu's authentic charm. The local guide will provide insights into the city's history and Baroque architecture.

At our first stops at the Advanced Gate and the Gate of Provence, we will learn about Birgu's role in the Great Siege of Malta in 1565, highlighting the Knights of St. John and local defenders who repelled the Ottoman forces. Key fortifications like Fort St. Angelo were crucial.

We will also view the Bastions of St. John and St. James and the Armoury of the Knights of St. John, discussing the city’s experience during the Second World War with its strategic significance and the extensive bombing it faced. Despite challenges, the city has demonstrated resilience.

Architectural sites include the Bishop's Palace, Huesca Palace, and the Inquisitor's Palace, as well as the Freedom Monument and Victorious City Marina.
