Bogotá Wayuu Backpack Workshop
The meeting point is at 2 pm at The Cranky Croc Hostel, after which a walk to the historic center of Bogotá will commence. A stop at a café will provide participants with a traditional drink, during which discussions on indigenous communities from North Colombia and the symbolic significance of the Wayuu backpack will take place.
Following this, the group will visit the workshop of a Wayuu craftswoman from La Guahira. She will demonstrate the weaving techniques and patterns utilized to create a backpack using a crochet method introduced by Spanish conquistadors. This product is entirely Colombian, supporting the livelihood of many indigenous families through its commercialization.
Participants will receive guidance from the craftswoman to design their own miniature backpack, in line with the Colombian tradition rooted in the legend of Wale' Kerü, the weaver spider.
At the conclusion of the workshop, attendees will be given a souvenir backpack and keychain featuring Wayuu weaving patterns, wrapping up the experience around 5 pm in the backpack tent.
