Cuevas de Tenjo Hike

Join us as we enter the depths of the Earth on this hiking route through the Cuevas de Tenjo. We'll access these caves to learn their secrets and enjoy incredible views of the Bogotá savanna.

Description

At the indicated time, we'll meet at your chosen pickup point and travel by minibus to the center of Tenjo. Once there, we'll begin a 45-minute hike to the caves of the interior of Colombia. During this upward hike, we will see the Bogotá savanna, cultivated fields, and, if we're lucky, different species of birds.

We'll access the Cuevas de Tenjo using ropes, descending 45 metres (147 feet) below the surface. Lanterns will be lit as we explain the cave formations and their historical uses. After a 10-minute visit inside the caves, we will return to the surface and head to the viewpoint for a panoramic view of the surrounding mountains.

We will then walk back to the town to visit a hummingbird conservation centre, where we will learn about these birds and take an hour's break. Finally, we will return to the initial meeting point by minibus after an 8-hour tour.

If you prefer, you can start the hiking route directly in Tenjo. This option lasts approximately four hours and does not include transport, starting from the meeting point at Parroquia Santiago Apóstol.
