On this free tour of La Candelaría, we'll discover the origins of Colombia while touring the most iconic streets of this area of Bogotá and taking in its colonial architecture.
Tour Details
We will meet at the intersection of Carrera 7 and Calle 11 at the scheduled time to explore every corner of the historic neighbourhood of La Candelaría. Bogotá was founded here in 1538.
As we walk down the cobblestone streets, we will discuss the cultural heritage and architecture of this area, including the stories behind street names.
During the tour, we will pass by notable museums, including the Museum of Independence - Casa del Florero and the House of Manuelita Sáenz.
We will visit Bolívar Square, Calle 10, and major attractions like the Iglesia de San Ignacio de Loyola, San Carlos Palace, Fundación Casa Rafael Pombo, and Museo Militar.
Next, we will reach the Museo de la Moneda, home to the Numismatic Collection of the Bank of the Republic since 1996. We will then visit the historic Plazoleta del Rosario, known as Plaza de San Francisco during colonial times, where many public and religious events are celebrated.
Before concluding, we will stop at the Monument to Policarpa Salavarrieta, a heroine of Colombian independence. Finally, we will reach the Chorro de Quevedo to finish the tour after approximately 3.5 hours.
