With this ticket to the Palace of the Archiginnasio, you'll learn about the history of one of the most emblematic buildings of Bologna. A must-see in the capital of the Emilia Romagna region!

Built in the 16th century by order of Cardinal Charles Borromeo, the Archiginnasio was the seat of the University of Bologna. When you enter the courtyard, you'll notice the large number of coats of arms painted on its walls, corresponding to over 7,000 surnames of students who studied there.

With your English audioguide, you'll discover curiosities about the building while visiting the cloister and its notable rooms: the Anatomical Theater and the Stabat Mater room.

In the Anatomical Theater, you'll see a historic classroom with wooden sculptures used for studying medicine. Notably, one of the pioneers of plastic surgery taught here, and you'll learn about Bolognese Gaspare Tagliacozzi when you spot his statue.

A small passageway in the Sala dello Stabat Mater provides access to the Archiginnasio Municipal Library, which contains more than 35,000 ancient books.
