Guided Tour of the São Mateus Cave
We will meet at the entrance to the São Mateus cave, located 3.5 km (2.2 miles) from the center of Bonito at the scheduled time. The tour begins with a visit to the Museum of Cultural History, showcasing objects from the Kadiwéu, the ancient inhabitants of Bonito. We will share insights about the indigenous people of Brazil and discuss the native flora and fauna of Mato Grosso do Sul.
Following the museum, we'll take a short walk to access the São Mateus grotto. Participants will admire the cave's stunning rock formations shaped over millions of years, including a stalagmite resembling the Tower of Pisa.
We will address questions regarding speleothems, the discovery of the cave, and the size of stalagmites as we explore this underground environment.
After an hour and a half of exploration, we will conclude the tour at the starting point.
