Bordeaux City Bike Tour
We'll meet at the appointed time on Rue du Jardin Public in Bordeaux. After a brief technical talk, we'll begin the bicycle tour of the main districts of the capital of New Aquitaine. The route will cover approximately 15 kilometres through mostly flat areas.
Our first stop will be the historic district of Saint-Michel, located on the banks of the Garonne River. Here, we will view the Saint-Michel Basilica, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its Flamboyant Gothic architecture. We'll discuss the history of the church and its surrounding area.
The tour will continue at the church of Sainte-Croix, a former Benedictine abbey recognized as a Historical Monument of France. We will learn about the Merovingian period during which this temple was built.
Next, we will visit the Jardin Public, known as the lungs of Bordeaux. From the park, we will head to the Chartrons district, notable for its restaurants and bistros. North of Chartrons, alongside the Garonne River, we will see the Cité du Vin in the Bacalan district.
We will then cross the Garonne to explore La Bastide district, one of the most bohemian areas of Bordeaux, before returning to the starting point to conclude the bike tour.
