Why Visit the Bassins des Lumiéres?
Make your way to Les Bassins des Lumières to enter this interactive art gallery located in Bordeaux's former submarine base. Opened in summer 1999, it features large immersive digital exhibitions dedicated to great artists, contemporary works, and major themes such as space exploration and comic strips. Les Bassins is the largest digital art centre in the world. Inside, you'll find 4 massive basins with continuous digital exhibitions:
The Immersive Citerne: a 155 m² (1,668 ft²) space with 7 m (23 ft) high ceilings.The Cube: a 220 m² (2,368 ft²), 8 m (26 ft) high space for contemporary immersive art.Large Mooring Buoys: images from temporary exhibitions projected onto the water.The Base Museum: explores the history of the old submarine base.
It usually takes around an hour to take in the exhibitions.

This exhibition showcases masterpieces of Dutch painting, including Rembrandt's The Night Watch and Vermeer's Girl with a Pearl Earring. It runs until January 29th 2025.

November 5th to December 19th, 2024: Monday and Tuesday from 10 am to 6 pm, Wednesday from 10 am to 2 pm, Thursday from 10 am to 6 pm, Friday from 10 am to 8 pm, Saturday and Sunday from 10 am to 2 pm.December 20th, 2024 to January 5th, 2025: from 10 am to 2 pm.January 6th to 29th, 2025: Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 10 am to 6 pm, Wednesday from 10 am to 2 pm, Friday from 10 am to 8 pm, Sunday from 10 am to 2 pm.
Final admission will be one hour before closing time.
