Why Visit the Bassins des Lumiéres?
Make your way to Les Bassins des Lumières, an interactive art gallery located in Bordeaux's former submarine base. Opened in summer 1999, it features immersive digital exhibitions dedicated to renowned artists, contemporary works, and major themes such as space and comics. It is the largest digital art centre in the world.
Within Les Bassins, you'll find four massive basins with a continuous cycle of exhibitions:
The Immersive Citerne: 155 square meters (1,668 square feet) with 7-meter (23-foot) high ceilings.The Cube: 220 square meters (2,368 square feet), 8-meter (26-foot) high, showcasing contemporary immersive artists.Large Mooring Buoys: images from temporary exhibitions projected onto the water.The Base Museum: a history of the old submarine base.
It usually takes around an hour to view the exhibitions.
Temporary Exhibitions

L'Égypte des Pharaons: de Khéops à Ramsès II
This exhibition focuses on the civilization of Ancient Egypt, exploring secrets from the time of the pharaohs, including significant sites such as Luxor, Abu Simbel, and the tombs in the Valley of the Kings and Queens.
Les Orientalistes: Ingres, Delacroix, Gérôme...
This exhibition showcases 19th-century works by DelaCroix, Ingres, and Gérôme, depicting views of distant lands like Morocco, Algeria, and Egypt.
