Belgium is spelled with a b for "bandé dessinée", the French term for Ninth Art. In this comic tour of Brussels, we will explore various urban vignettes found in city murals.
Description
The tour begins at the specified time on Rue du Marché au Charbon. We will first visit a shop focused on Ninth Art, introducing you to the world of Belgian comics.
We will then walk through the capital to view several murals celebrating comics. You will learn about the artists, their connections, and the primary schools of Franco-Belgian comics, particularly the "clear line" style. Additionally, we will identify the first mural dedicated to comics in Brussels.
Our next stop will be in front of the house that inspired Hergé for the setting of Tintin's home, near the market associated with the iconic ‘unicorn’ from one of the comics. The tour continues through ‘Les Marolles’, Brussels' authentic district, showcasing murals of other Hergé characters, Peyó, creator of The Smurfs, among others.
After a 2.5-hour tour, we will conclude at the Place du Jeu de Balle, the square where Tintin embarks on one of his adventures, which Spielberg adapted into a film. Perhaps this marks the beginning of your own adventure?
