Flanders Fields Excursion
For those visiting Brussels and keen on delving into historical insights, this trip to Flanders Fields is an ideal choice. Gather at Boulevard de Berlaimont at the specified time to commence this enlightening adventure.
From 1914 to 1918, Flanders Fields served as a critical location on the Western Front during World War One. Our first destination will be the German Military Cemetery in Langemark, the final resting place for over 44,000 soldiers. Here, you will also encounter the Comrades Grave, a significant feature of this solemn site.
Continuing our exploration of this historic period, we will journey to Ypres, where a break for lunch at a local restaurant will provide an opportunity to reflect. Afterward, our visit to the Flanders Fields Museum will immerse you in the experiences of soldiers, showcasing trenches and underground shelters, revealing the harsh realities of life during the war.
Our itinerary includes a visit to the Memorial Museum Passchendaele 1917 in Zonnebeke, where you will uncover the stories behind the Third Battle of Ypres, widely recognized as the Battle of Passchendaele.
Next, we will honor the soldiers who lost their lives in the conflict at the Tyne Cot Memorial, noted as the largest cemetery in the Commonwealth of Nations.
To round off our day at Flanders Fields, we will visit the Monument to the Disappeared at the Menin Gate, commemorating over 54,000 soldiers with no known graves.
Finally, we will return to Brussels, concluding our tour after a comprehensive 13-hour experience.
