Buenos Aires Bookstores Tour
Jorge Luis Borges once said: "I always imagined that paradise would be some kind of library." Buenos Aires has the highest number of bookstores per capita in the world, with 370 shops. We will meet at 10 am next to the pyramid of Plaza de Mayo to start the tour.
Our first stop will be La Librería de Ávila, the oldest bookshop in Buenos Aires, located on Calle Adolfo Alsina in Monserrat. With origins dating back to the late 18th century, it attracts many readers, especially those who visit its literary café in the basement.
Next, we will visit El Túnel bookstore on Avenida de Mayo, near the historic Café Tortoni, located on the first floor of Palacio Vera, a building in the Jugendstil style.
Our next stop will be Edipo Libros on Avenida Corrientes, a store that resisted the literary prohibitions during the cultural genocide from 1976 to 1983 by the Civil-Military Dictatorship of Argentina.
At noon, we will conclude the tour at El Ateneo Grand Splendid, recognized by The Guardian as one of the most beautiful bookstores in the world, located in an old cinema-theater from the early 20th century.
