On this tour through Buenos Aires, learn about the first saint in Argentina, Mama Antula, as we follow in her footsteps throughout the city.
What to Expect
Join us for a walking tour through Buenos Aires to explore the legacy of Mama Antula, Argentina's first saint. The tour begins at Lorea Square.
We will first visit Our Lady of Mercy Basilica, where the remains of Maria Antonia de Paz y Figueroa, known as Mama Antula, are located. She was canonized by Pope Francis on February 11, 2024, making her the first woman born in Argentina to be declared a saint.
During the tour, we will learn about her background and influence while exploring notable sites in Buenos Aires. We will visit the Church of the Arcangel Michael and Mayo Plaza, where the Casa Rosada and the Metropolitan Cathedral of Buenos Aires are found. Inside the cathedral, we will see a portrait of Mama Antula, who, while depicted in a habit, was a consecrated layperson and founded the Daughters of the Divine Savior.
Also in Mayo Plaza, we will view the exterior of the Buenos Aires Cabildo. Our next stop will be the Otto Wulff building, which has connections to Mama Antula.
The 2.5-hour tour will conclude at Our Lady of Montserrat Parish, near the Museum of the Holy House of the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius of Loyola, a building established through Mama Antula's initiative.
