Cagliari Underground Tour
- 2 Stunden
Join us to uncover the mysterious world beneath Cagliari on this tour of its underground network of tunnels, crypts, and quarries.
Activity Details
We’ll meet on Via Sant'Ignazio da Laconi to begin our tour of Cagliari's underground. Beneath the city lies a hidden network of quarries, cisterns, crypts, and tunnels, all carved from the same limestone rock on which Cagliari stands. These subterranean passages have been carefully restored and are now open to exploration.
Our first stop is the Galleria Rifugio dell'Istituto dei Salesiani, a 120-meter (393 feet) tunnel that served as a refuge during the bombings of 1943. The tunnel, now lit by soft candlelight, provides a unique atmosphere as we explore its history.
Continuing on foot through the historic Stampace and Marina neighborhoods, we’ll reach the Crypt of Santa Restituta, a natural cave rich with local legends of the city.
Our next destination is the Museum of the Treasury and Archaeological Area of Sant'Eulalia in the Marina district. This site, spanning 900 square meters (9,687 sq ft) beneath the church of Sant'Eulalia, reveals ruins from various historical periods, showcasing the city’s past.
After 2 hours of exploring, we’ll conclude our journey through Cagliari’s hidden underground.
