Visit the remnants of the ancient coral reef that stretched across the Australian outback millions of years ago on our Outback & Chillagoe Day Trip. You'll also explore some of the country's most striking spots during this excursion.
Outback & Chillagoe Day Trip
Between 6:45 and 7 am, we'll pick you up from your hotel in Cairns, where we'll hop on an air-conditioned minibus to start exploring the vast Australian Outback.
Our first stop will be at a local coffee shop for a cup of coffee or tea. Next, we will visit the Chillagoe-Mungana Caves to see limestone labyrinths and fossils from an ancient coral reef that existed 400 million years ago.
We will then go to the Chillagoe smelter ruins to learn about the local history of copper smelting and admire the old chimneys in the landscape.
For lunch, we'll stop at one of Australia's oldest pubs, open for over 100 years, with a menu including burgers, fish, and local specialties.
After lunch, we will visit the Aboriginal Art Rock to view impressive rock paintings. On our way, we will stop at Equilibrium Rock for photo opportunities.
The final stop will be Granite Gorge Nature Park, where you can meet the friendly wallabies and enjoy the surrounding scenery.
After a day in the Australian Outback, we will return to your hotel in Cairns between 6:45 pm and 7 pm.
