Guided Tour of Cajamarca
We'll pick you up at your hotel in downtown Cajamarca at the agreed time for this guided tour. Cajamarca hosts the annual Peruvian Carnival, a significant holiday in Peru.
The tour begins at the Plaza de Armas, the site where the Inca chief Atahualpa was captured by the Spaniards. Here, we will view the Santa Catalina cathedral and the San Francisco church, notable for their facades carved in volcanic rock.
Next, we will walk to the monumental complex of Belen, which includes the Men's Hospital, the Women's Hospital, and a church. We will then see the Cuarto del Rescate (Rescue Room), known for its preserved Incan remains. Historians indicate that Francisco Pizarro imprisoned Atahualpa here, and we will explore details about Atahualpa's last days in captivity.
Our next stop is the viewpoint atop Santa Apolonia hill, where we will enjoy a view of the city and the Rumi Tiana valley. Here, we will also find the Silla del Inca, believed to be Atahualpa's seat.
After three and a half hours of historical exploration, we will return to your hotel in Cajamarca.
