Kuntur Wasi Day Trip
We'll pick you up at the indicated time at your hotel in Cajamarca to start this excursion to Kuntur Wasi, an archaeological complex located on La Copa hill, in the province of San Pablo. We'll arrive there at around 10:45 am.
Kuntur Wasi is a Quechua term meaning "house of the condor", named for stone sculptures depicting this animal. Other statues of supernatural beings were also found. It was a necropolis belonging to the Chavín civilisation , excavated in 1989 by Japanese archaeologists led by Dr. Yoshio Onuki. Valuable objects such as crowns, masks, and forged jewellery were found in its eight tombs, including the oldest gold in the Americas.
We'll visit the Museum of Kuntur Wasi, showcasing gold objects discovered in the excavations, including the famous 14-sided crown, a remarkable piece made using the embossing technique.
Our tour will continue with a visit to the archaeological complex, allowing us to admire the temple, the tombs, and the carved stone sculptures. After visiting Kuntur Wasi, we'll go to a local restaurant in San Pablo for lunch before returning to Cajamarca.
We will arrive at your hotel about 8 hours later.
