Lake Sausacocha & Wiracochapampa Excursion

We'll start with the pickup at 5 am at your hotel in Cajamarca. For three hours, we'll cross the plains of northern Peru until we reach the town of Cajabamba, where we'll have a break for breakfast on your own. Afterward, we'll set off for Lake Sausacocha.

Upon arrival, our tour will begin with a visit to this spring, an important wetland area surrounded by low hills. The term Sausacocha translates from the Inca term "sawsaqucha," meaning "lagoon that never dries up."

We'll take an hour and a half break for lunch, during which you can explore the lagoon and enjoy a boat ride. Next, we'll head to the archaeological complex of Wiracochapampa, where we'll learn about its legends.

These ruins belong to the Wari, an Andean civilization that inhabited a large part of Peru. Here, we'll see trapezoidal constructions with towering walls up to 20 meters high. During the walk, we'll also admire its carefully planned squares and patios.

After the tour, we'll return to Cajamarca, where we'll arrive at your hotel at 9:30 pm.
