Chacabuco Ghost Town Private Tour
We'll pick you up from your hotel in Calama to start our private tour to the Chacabuco ghost town. Our first stop will be at Pique Chela, a spa established in the Atacama Desert around the end of the 19th century, which was considered Bolivian territory at the time.
At around noon, we'll arrive at the Pampa Union town, founded in 1911 for salt mining. The town developed with the construction of a sanatorium for sick and injured workers from the salt mines.
Next, we will head to the ghost town of Chacabuco. Here, we will explore the empty streets while discussing the town's history, which includes its origins as a salt and saltpeter mining town. The Chacabuco Saltpeter Office was one of the largest of its kind in the region.
This village once had a population of up to 5,000 inhabitants, leading to the establishment of a theater, hotel, school, market, as well as gym and football fields for the residents.
After experiencing the atmosphere of the Chacabuco ghost town, we will return to your hotel in Calama, completing the tour in 8 hours.
