Chacabuco Ghost Town Private Tour
You'll be picked up from your hotel in Calama to start the private tour to Chacabuco ghost town. We'll briefly stop at Pique Chela, a spa established in the Atacama Desert for local families in the late 19th century, which was then considered Bolivian territory.
At around noon, we will arrive at Pampa Union town, founded in 1911 for salt mining, initially formed due to a sanatorium for sick and injured workers.
Continuing, we'll reach the ghost town of Chacabuco. Here, we will stroll through the empty streets and discuss the town's history as a significant salt and saltpeter mining location, with the Chacabuco Saltpeter Office being notably prominent.
At its peak, the village had around 5,000 inhabitants, leading to the construction of various facilities including a theater, hotel, school, market, and gym along with football fields.
After exploring the eerie remnants of Chacabuco, we will return you to your hotel in Calama, concluding the tour approximately 8 hours later.
