Embark on a day trip to Chiu Chiu and Pukara de Lasana from Calama, unveiling the cultural heritage of the villages in the Alto del Loa region in the Atacama Desert.
Tour Highlights
At the designated time, our team will pick you up from your hotel in Calama and start the journey in an off-roading vehicle to explore Chiu Chiu and Pukara de Lasana.
The expedition covers approximately 150 kilometers (93 miles), focusing on the history and culture of the main villages in Alto del Loa. Our first stop is Santa Margarita, known for its marble quarries and location beside the Loa River. We will then reach the Inca Coya Lagoon, surrounded by local legends.
By 1 pm, we will arrive at San Francisco de Chiu Chiu, where you will have an hour of free time to enjoy the local cuisine. After lunch, we will discuss the history of Chiu Chiu, originally founded by the Spaniards as Atacama la Chica.
Next, we will visit the San Francisco Church, the oldest in Chile and a National Monument, constructed from cactus wood.
At 3 pm, our journey proceeds to Pukara de Lasana, which features remnants from the 6th century and insights into the agro-pottery culture of the region. The day concludes around 7 pm, when we return to your hotel.
