Embark on a day trip to Chiu Chiu and Pukara de Lasana from Calama, exploring the cultural heritage of the Alto del Loa region in the Atacama Desert.
Tour Highlights
Our team will pick you up from your hotel in Calama at the designated time, starting the journey in an off-roading vehicle. This expedition covers approximately 150 kilometers (93 miles) and delves into the history and culture of the villages in the Alto del Loa.
The first stop near Calama is Santa Margarita, known for its marble quarries and location alongside the Loa River. Next, we visit the Inca Coya Lagoon, an area shrouded in mystery and legends.
By 1 pm, we will arrive at San Francisco de Chiu Chiu, where you will have an hour of free time to enjoy local cuisine. After lunch, we will explore the history of Chiu Chiu, founded by the Spaniards and originally named Atacama la Chica.
We will then visit the San Francisco Church, the oldest in Chile and a National Monument, notable for its cactus wood structure and expansive portals.
At 3 pm, we proceed to Pukara de Lasana, home to remnants from the 6th century that reflect the early communities of the Atacama Desert. Here, we will learn about their culture focused on agro-pottery.
The tour concludes around 7 pm, with a return to your hotel.
