Embark on a private day trip to Chiu Chiu and the Poruña Volcano, exploring a village in Alto del Loa and the landscapes of the Andes Mountains.
Tour Highlights
At 8:30 am, we will pick you up from your hotel in Calama to start the journey to Chiu Chiu and the Poruña Volcano. Our first stop is the Conchi Viaduct, also known as the Loa River Viaduct, notable for its history as part of the railroad route from Antofagasta to Bolivia.
Continuing to the vicinity of Poruña Volcano, a 3-kilometer (1.8-mile) hike will take you through the smallest crater globally, offering views of the Andes Mountains.
As we traverse the Lasana Valley, situated in the Loa River canyon, we'll see remnants of early human settlements that sustained agriculture and livestock for centuries.
By 1:30 pm, we will arrive at San Francisco de Chiu Chiu, providing you with one hour of free time for lunch. Afterward, we will explore the historic streets of the town, formerly known as Atacama Chica, visiting its significant monuments, including the San Francisco Church, the oldest church in Chile.
At 3 pm, we will begin our return journey to Calama, finishing with your drop-off at your hotel seven hours later.
