Artisan Tour in Ayacucho
Your day begins with a pickup at 8 am from your accommodation in Callao, setting off towards the scenic Lurin Valley, nestled within the province of Lima.
As we make our way to the valley, we will traverse the Pantanos de la Villa, a vibrant wetland sanctuary that shelters countless migratory birds. Our artisan exploration will kick off with a glimpse into the demographic landscape of Lurin, noting that many residents originally fled Ayacucho during the turbulent 80s.
Known for its diverse and profound expressions of folk art, Ayacucho is often hailed as the heart of Peruvian handicrafts. The influx of immigrants introduced age-old techniques to Lurin, establishing it as a burgeoning hub for Ayacucho crafts.
During the tour, we will stop at two traditional pottery studios, where you can observe artisans crafting iconic clay figures first-hand. Next, we will visit a tapestry workshop, where local craftsmen utilize traditional looms, giving insight into the creation of tapestries, embroideries, and belts woven from natural fibers.
After immersing ourselves in the artisan crafts, we will savor a traditional Peruvian Creole lunch featuring two courses and a beverage. Choose between a starter of salad, potatoes, or beans mixed with corn, followed by a main dish of rice with chicken, aji de gallina, or beans and meat.
Finally, we will head back to Callao, concluding our day with a drop-off at your hotel around 3:30 pm.
