Yucatán Camino Real Craftsmanship Tour

Starting from your accommodation in San Francisco de Campeche, we will depart at 8 am heading north on a section of the Camino Real. This once crucial route, established by the Spanish in the 16th century, connected various towns across the Yucatan Peninsula.

The primary course of the Camino Real linked Campeche to Merida. Our journey will take us along this historic path until we arrive at Becal, renowned for its unique handicraft practices, notably the crafting of jipijapa hats within caves—an age-old skill preserved across generations.

Next, we will venture along the Camino Real of the Yucatan into Calkiní, where a pause at La Palapa restaurant will allow us to enjoy a tasty lunch. You will have the option to choose from a typical dish featuring chicken or pork.

Our exploration will continue in Hecelchakán, a quaint village rich in history and Yucatecan craftsmanship. Here, you will find handmade hats, shawls, and other textiles, created using methods that trace back to ancient Mayan practices.

The final destination of our journey will be Pomuch. At this location, we will tour a traditional bakery to witness the art of bread-making by a skilled baker using a wood-fired oven. You will also have the chance to sample these delightful baked goods.

We will conclude our trip with a return to your hotel in Campeche, expected to arrive around 3 pm.
