Paestum Archeological Park Private Tour
At the selected time, we will meet at the Archaeological Park of Paestum to start a tour of this significant location in southern Italy, once known as Magna Grecia during the Classical Age.
The guided tour will commence with an overview of its Greek origins and its subsequent Roman conquest, including the impact of natural events such as the overflowing of the Salso River which led to the downfall of the city.
Our first stop will be the temple of Hera, the oldest on-site, from the 6th century BC. Nearby is the temple of Poseidon, the largest temple in Paestum, which gives its name to the archaeological park. After observing its large Doric colonnades, we will visit the sanctuary of Athena, noted for the Christian tombs discovered there, as it later functioned as a church.
The tour continues along the Via Sacra to the forum and the Roman amphitheater of Paestum. We will conclude with a visit to the National Archaeological Museum to view original artifacts and the exceptional Tomb of the Swimmer.
After the two-hour tour, it will end; you may choose to explore further at your own pace.
