Description

The fortress of Carcassonne was the site of confrontations between the French and Aragonese during the Middle Ages. Your fast-track ticket allows you to visit the romanese Chapel of the Bastion, the Machicolations, and the barbican, a defensive gateway above the moat. The entrance includes fast-track access to the citadel's ramparts, where you can explore the walled perimeter, towers, and battlements. Enjoy views of the Aude river valley and the historical city center featuring the Saint-Nazaire basilica and Narbonne Gate.

Opening Times

The opening times of Carcassonne Castle are as follows:

April 1st to September 30th: from 11 am to 6:30 pmOctober 1st to March 31st: from 9:30 am to 4:15 pm

Final admission is 45 minutes before closing time. On December 24th and 31st, the castle closes at 4 pm. These times are subject to change.

Admission to the Castle and walls of Carcassonne is free for:

Young people from the EU between 18 and 25 years old.Children under 18 years old, regardless of nationality.

To acquire free admission, visit the site’s ticket office and present a valid ID. Admission is also free on the first Sunday of the month from January to March and November to December, and the third weekend of September.

Reduced-Fare tickets

A reduced-fare ticket is available at the box office for approximately 6.50 EUR, valid for visits from 3:30 pm from October to March or from 5 pm from April to September.
