The legendary fortress of Carcassonne was the scene of fierce confrontations during the Middle Ages. Your ticket allows you to visit the Romanesque Chapel of the Bastion, the Machicolations, and the Barbican. The entrance includes access to the citadel's ramparts, where you can stroll around the medieval city’s perimeter, exploring various towers and battlements while enjoying views of the Aude river valley and the historical city center.

Opening Times

The opening times of Carcassonne Castle are as follows:

April 1 to September 30: 11 am to 6:30 pmOctober 1 to March 31: 9:30 am to 4:15 pm

Final admission is 45 minutes before closing time. On December 24 and 31, the castle will close at 4 pm. On January 16, 2026, the castle will open from 9:30 am to 2 pm. These times are flexible and subject to change.

Admission to the Castle and walls of Carcassonne is free for the following individuals:

Young people from the EU between 18 and 25 years.Children under 18 years, regardless of nationality.

To obtain free admission, visit the ticket office and present a valid ID. Admission is also free for everyone on the first Sunday of the month between January 1 and March 31, between November 1 and December 31, and the third weekend of September.
