Carrara Marble Quarries Jeep Tour

Meet at your chosen time at the Carrara train station and board the jeep for a trip to the Carrara Marble Quarries, the most famous marble quarry in the world.

The jeep will take us to the highest quarries, at 3,280 feet (1,000 metres) above sea level. We will explain the quarrying history of Carrara marble, which dates back to the Roman Empire, and detail the extraction techniques used historically and currently.

Learn how Michelangelo Buonarroti preferred Carrara marble for his sculptures. The tour includes a visit to the specific quarry where Michelangelo selected the marble blocks for notable works like David.

After the quarry visit, we will return to the city, stopping at a lardo factory to taste Lardo di Colonatta, a well-known Italian sausage.

Your return to the Carrara train station will conclude the tour, approximately 3 hours after its start.
