Want to get to know the city of the most famous Colombian Carnival? Discover the charm of Barranquilla on this excursion from Cartagena!
Description
At the designated time, we'll pick you up from your hotel in Cartagena and head to Barranquilla, known as the "Golden Gate." During the journey, you'll have views of the emblematic Sombrero Volteado. After 2 hours, we'll begin a scenic tour of Barranquilla.
Our first stop will be Plaza del Puerto de Colombia, where history and art blend. From here, we'll visit the Puerto Colombia Lighthouse and the Ventana de los Sueños (Window of Dreams). Next, we'll explore Salgar Castle, a historical fort with sea views, followed by a visit to Laguna de los Cisnes (Swan Lake) and Ciénaga de Mallorquín.
Along the route, we'll stop at the famous Barranquilla letters for photo opportunities and travel down Vía 40, known for its vibrant carnival atmosphere. We'll continue to the Malecón del Río Magdalena, where we’ll discover monuments dedicated to notable local figures and visit Barrio Abajo, the centre of Barranquilla's folklore.
We'll also visit Casa del Carnaval to learn about local traditions, then explore Romelio Martínez Castle and La Troja, a spot renowned for its salsa scene. For lunch, we'll enjoy typical Currambera food in either Barrio Abajo or Barrio El Prado, based on availability.
After lunch, we will visit the Metropolitan Cathedral and Barrio El Prado, showcasing colonial architecture. Finally, we'll enjoy a sunset from the Centro Comercial Muelle 1888 rooftop before returning to Cartagena after a total of 11.5 hours.
