Bioluminescent Plankton Tour

This tour around Playa Blanca will give you the chance to see the spectacular luminescent plankton, fascinating microorganisms found off the coast of the paradise island of Baru.

Description

At the scheduled time, we'll meet at the El Encanto de los Corales Hotel and set off towards a swamp in Playa Blanca. As night falls, we will observe the luminescent plankton.

After a short boat ride, we will reach a secluded area to see this natural phenomenon. Before swimming in the Caribbean Sea, we will provide a brief biology introduction about the plankton and the marine ecosystem of Baru.

We will discuss the qualities of these microorganisms, noting that most of the plankton glow blue but can also appear in red, orange, or green.

We will then dip into the warm waters of Playa Blanca and swim. The more you move, the more these blue specks will shine.

Finally, we will return to the starting point after an hour and a half.
