Bioluminescent Plankton Tour

This tour around Playa Blanca offers the opportunity to see the remarkable luminescent plankton, microorganisms found off the coast of Baru island.

Description

At the scheduled time, we will meet at the El Encanto de los Corales Hotel and proceed to a swamp in Playa Blanca. After sunset, we will observe the luminescent plankton. This unique experience includes a short boat ride to a secluded area for optimal viewing. Prior to swimming in the Caribbean Sea, we will provide a brief biology introduction on plankton and the marine ecosystem of Baru.

We will discuss the characteristics of these microorganisms, which typically glow blue, but may also appear in red, orange, or green.

Participants will then enter the warm waters of Playa Blanca and swim. The more you move, the more the plankton will illuminate, creating a natural spectacle.

After approximately an hour and a half, we will return to the starting point.
