On the scheduled day, we will convene at the entrance to the Cabo de Palos Lighthouse. Are you prepared to scale to the summit and gaze at the Murcian coastline from above?
Erected in the mid-1800s, the Cabo de Palos Lighthouse replaced the former watch tower of the Murcian city. This landmark has been illuminating the Costa Calida daily, serving as a crucial navigation aid for vessels avoiding the rocky coastline.
Did you know it ranks among the tallest lighthouses in Spain? Our exploration will cover its historical significance and the various initiatives that facilitated its establishment. We will also discuss the relevance of the Cabo de Palos Marine Reserve.
Following a detailed introduction at the lighthouse esplanade, it will be our turn to ascend. We will navigate over 300 steps to reach the balcony nearly 80 metres (260 feet) above ground. From here, a panoramic view of the Mediterranean Sea, Cabo de Palos, and La Manga del Mar Menor awaits. Time for photographs!
Additionally, we will discover the mechanics of the lighthouse and some engaging trivia related to it. We’ll also discuss the vessels that have met their fate near this location.
