Cartagena de Indias Paila Ice Cream Workshop

In this workshop in Cartagena de Indias, you will learn how to make paila ice cream using the traditional method. You will also have the opportunity to taste this popular treat.

We will meet at a time of your choice in the Plaza de la Trinidad and walk to a local shop where we will learn to make paila ice cream.

Upon arrival at the ice cream parlour, operated by women and using ecological materials, we will begin preparing the ice creams. We will utilize a traditional paila, a special metal pan designed for its large diameter and shallow depth.

While preparing the ingredients, you will learn about the history of paila ice creams, which originated in Ecuador but are also common in Pasto, the capital of the Colombian department of Nariño.

The ice creams will be made artisanally from fruit or milk using only natural and organic ingredients. At the end of the process, you will taste three paila ice creams.

The workshop lasts between one and a half and two hours. At the end of the experience, we can accompany you back to the meeting point, or you may stay longer to try additional ice creams on your own.
