San Basilio de Palenque Day Trip
After picking you up at around 9 am from your hotel in Cartagena de Indias, we will set off for San Basilio de Palenque. After an hour's journey, we will arrive at this village with over 300 years of history.
San Basilio de Palenque was the first free African town in the Americas and is now a cultural heritage site where the creole language and African culture are preserved. We will explore its streets and learn about the town's origins.
During the tour, we will view the colourful houses and the unique traditions in music, dance, and medicine. A highlight is the sight of the “Palenqueras”, the colourfully dressed women selling tropical fruits in the streets, known as icons of San Basilio de Palenque.
The tour includes a typical lunch featuring local delicacies. After the tour, we will return to Cartagena, arriving around 3 pm.
Hotel pick up
This tour includes pick up from hotels in the Bocagrande area and the historical centre of Cartagena. If you are not staying in these areas, you will need to reach the meeting point at the entrance to the Éxito San Diego supermarket.
