Chankillo & Carob Tree Forest Excursion

After picking you up at 9 am at your hotel in Casma, we'll head to the archaeological site of Chankillo, located just half an hour away.

Chankillo was declared a World Heritage Site in July 2021 and is recognized as the oldest astronomical complex in the Americas, dating back to between 257 and 201 BC. During the visit, we'll learn about the region's worldview.

We will observe the ancient fortified temple, which is 300 meters long with several concentric walls over 5 meters high. The dimensions of these walls may be explained by a theory regarding recreations of battles that occurred here, based on other remains discovered in the area.

Many carob tree trunks that served as lintels have been found in Chankillo. After learning about these architectural elements, we'll visit the carob tree forest within the archaeological center, where we will explore the properties and benefits of this tree.

We will return to your hotel in Casma by 11 and 11:30 am.
