Guided tour of Noto, a city of art rich in charm that has earned the title of “Stone Garden” as well as the Sicilian capital of Baroque. It was rebuilt after the earthquake of 1693 and in 2002 it was named UNESCO as a World Heritage Site along with all Baroque cities of the Noto Valley (Catania, Militello val di Catania, Caltagirone, Noto, Palazzolo acreide, Modica, Scicli, Ragusa). Starting from Porta Reale, you will pass through the main street, Corso Vittorio Emanuele.
On its sides, you can admire its beautiful yellow limestone buildings with the stunning baroque facades. The Cathedral, the most important Catholic place of worship in the city of Noto, as well as a bishop's see, is dedicated to St. Nicholas (Bishop of Mira). The entrance of the church is preceded by a long staircase in front of which you will find Palazzo Ducezio, today headquarter of the municipality of the city.
Not to miss, Palazzo Nicolaci, noble residence of the Nicolaci family of Villadorata, whose baroque balconies amaze every passerby. The walk will reach Piazza XVI Maggio dominated by the convex facade of San Domenico’s church and the Theatre Vittorio Emanuele II, a beautiful example of nineteenth-century theatre. At the end of the tour you will stop for the tasting of the typical Sicilian products in one of the nice shop of the city.
