Day Excursion to Traiguera and Cervera del Maestre

We will gather outside the Tourist Office in Castellón de la Plana, located in Plaza de la Hierba. Once all participants have arrived, we will board a bus heading towards Traiguera. Let's embark on this adventure!

Upon our arrival in Traiguera, we will visit a local farm featuring ancient olive trees, with the oldest estimated to be over a millennium old, tracing back to the year 971! A highlight of this visit will be witnessing the olive tree honored as the best monumental olive tree in Spain. We will learn about the local production of this 'liquid gold' and enjoy an olive oil tasting paired with traditional cold cuts.

After our time in Traiguera, we will hop back on the bus and continue to Cervera del Maestre. Here, we will delve into the region's rich traditions surrounding olive cultivation as we visit the Oil Mill Visitor Centre, which has its roots in the Medieval era.

Following this insightful visit, a walking tour of the town awaits, where we will stroll through its cobbled streets and appreciate its delightful architecture. We will also admire the exterior of the local medieval castle, a formidable fortress offering stunning vistas of the Maestrazgo landscape.

Our journey will bring us back to Traiguera, specifically to the Royal Sanctuary Virgen Fuente de la Salud, recognized as an Asset of Cultural Interest. This remarkable complex, dating from the 14th century, showcases a fascinating mix of Gothic, Renaissance, and Baroque design elements. Highlights will include the historical pilgrim's hospice, exquisite frescoes adorning the sanctuary's ceiling, as well as the palace and residence of the priests.

The day excursion will conclude between 2:30 pm and 3 pm at our starting location.
