Bicycle Tour of Santa Maria di Leuca

On this bicycle tour of the cape of Santa Maria di Leuca, we will cycle to discover the history and landscape of the southernmost point of the Salento peninsula.

Tour Details

We will meet at the designated time at Torre di Salignano and begin our 15-kilometre (9.3-mile) cycle around Santa Maria di Leuca, historically known as Finibus Terrae (Land's End). The tour will start by admiring the Defence Tower, which was built for protection against Saracen incursions.

Continuing inward, we will explore charming villages, farms, and tranquil trails. Our next stop will be Patù, where we will view the notable Centopietre (Hundred Stones) and learn about the history of this megalithic structure.

Following this, we will visit the medieval castle Giuliano, one of the few remaining forts in Salento with its original structure. We will proceed to Barbarano to see the Santuario di Leuca Piccola, a historical place of worship for pilgrims.

The bicycle tour concludes at the Antica Locanda Retró, where we will enjoy a glass of wine alongside a selection of local cheeses. After a total of 3 hours exploring the cape of Santa Maria di Leuca, our bicycle adventure will end.
