On this guided tour, discover some of the most iconic sites in Piura, and visit Catacaos, known for its artisanal ceramic works and crafts.
Description
The tour begins at 9 am with pickup at your hotel in Piura. Our first stop is Plaza de Armas, the city's center, where we will see the Catedral de Piura, built in the 16th century in honor of San Miguel. Next, we will visit the Casa Museo Almirante Miguel Grau, which was repaired in 1964 after being damaged in an earthquake in 1912.
After a guided visit to San Miguel Bridge and the Piura River, we will head to Simbila, a small village about 5 km (3.1 miles) away, known for its ceramic artisans. Nearby is the city of Catacaos, a popular site in the Piura region.
In Catacaos, you will have a free hour for lunch at a local restaurant, followed by a guided tour of the old city, including Plaza de Armas, the Monumento al Bachiller Juan de Mori Alvarado, and the San Juan Bautista Temple. We will explore Market Street for souvenirs from this ceramic city.
As we walk through Catacaos, we’ll visit shops with region-specific products and have the chance to savor typical sweets and learn about crafting algarrobina, a sweet syrup. We will end the tour in galleries displaying artisanal silver and gold creations.
The tour concludes with a return to Piura at 4 pm.
