On this guided tour of Catania, you'll discover this city's history, art, and traditions. From its past to its present, you'll explore its charming corners and streets full of historic monuments.

Tour Details

At the designated time, we'll meet at Piazza dell'Università to begin our guided tour of Catania.

First, we'll explain the city's origins and the natural events that have shaped it, such as the lava flow in 1669 and the devastating earthquake in 1693 in the Val di Noto.

We'll then walk toward Piazza del Duomo and the Elephant Fountain, where you'll learn about the iconic Liotru and its legends.

We'll also visit the Catania Cathedral and the Town Hall courtyard, which are significant to Agatha of Sicily, the town's patron saint. Crossing the Fontana dell'Amenano, you'll experience the lively fish market, where local goods are available for purchase.

After leaving the market, we'll enter the tranquil Via dei Crociferi, a prime example of Baroque in Catania. You'll learn about the connections to the Catania lost after the 1693 earthquake.

We'll end our walk back at Piazza dell'Università, surrounded by Baroque buildings and Sicilian legends, concluding at the Roman Amphitheatre of Catania, notable for its black volcanic stone.

This guided tour lasts 2 hours and 15 minutes.
