Mount Etna + Volcanic Caves Hiking Tour

On this tour from Catania, we'll hike around Etna and its volcanic caves to explore one of the most famous volcanoes in the world. We'll go deep into its depths and learn about volcanology.

Description

At the designated time, we'll meet at Piazza Paolo Borsellino and board a bus to leave Catania behind, Mount Etna awaits us!

After an hour's drive, we'll reach the Sapienza Nicolosi refuge. Here, you'll have 30 minutes to explore the Silvestri craters of Etna, formed during the eruption of 1892.

Afterwards, we'll start our hiking route on Etna, approximately 3.5 hours, where we will see the landscapes of the highest volcano in Europe.

During the hike, we'll cross forests, see secondary craters, walk through black sand deserts, and high ravines next to ancient lava flows.

The route leads us to the Bove Valley, a gigantic lowland more than 8 kilometers long (5 miles). After admiring this formation, we'll wear our helmets and enter a volcanic cave.

We'll spend 30 minutes exploring a volcanic tube of Etna, where we'll discover facts about volcanology.

Finally, we'll leave the cave and return to the bus for the trip back to Catania, concluding the excursion after a total of 6.5-7 hours.

Sunset hike (5 hours)

You can choose the evening hike at 4:30 pm, taking you on a five-hour journey to witness the sunset over Mount Etna.
