Actun Tunichil Muknal Cave Trip
Pickup will be at 8 a.m. from your hotel in San Ignacio, followed by a journey to Actun Tunichil Muknal Cave, located about an hour and a half away. This is one of the most visited Mayan archaeological sites in Belize.
Inside the cave, the tour reveals how the Mayans understood and worshipped death. You will see human skeletons over a thousand years old, categorized as victims of sacrifices dedicated to the god Chaac. The exploration includes up to 14 sets of human remains, with discussions on their burials and the history of the Crystal Maiden. Visitors will learn why individuals were interred alongside pottery and clay pieces.
After the three-hour tour, lunch will be served, consisting of rice, beans, chicken, and fried plantain. Finally, the group will return to San Ignacio, concluding the excursion at 5 p.m.
Who can take part in the activity?
The minimum height is 1 meter (3.2 feet). Participants must also be able to swim.
