Xunantunich Day Trip
- 5 Stunden
Join us on this day trip to Xunantunich and explore the remains of the Mayan civilization.
Description
We will pick you up from your hotel in San Ignacio at 8 am for a scenic 15-minute drive to Xunantunich, an ancient Mayan city situated in a valley. The city’s name means “Stone Woman”. Afterward, we will take a 15-minute ferry ride along the river where you may see iguanas and bats.
We will cross the Mopán River on a hand-cranked ferry. Following this, a 1-mile drive will take us to our Mayan adventure.
Your guide, knowledgeable in Mayan Archeology, will lead us through the understory and towards the prominent structure of “El Castillo”, which is approximately 130 feet tall (39 metres) and the second tallest man-made structure in Belize. You will have the opportunity to climb to the top for a 360-degree view of the area.
We will also visit the Central Plaza and explore the Ancient Mayan Ball Court where Pok-A-Tok was played, residential areas, and the Astronomical Observatory, used for celestial observations. At the end of the tour, we will return to San Ignacio and drop you off at your hotel or office by around 12:30 pm to 1 pm.
