Xunantunich Day Trip

Join us on this day trip to Xunantunich and explore the remains of the Mayan civilization.

Description

We will pick you up from your hotel in San Ignacio at 8 am for a 15-minute drive to Xunantunich, an ancient Mayan city known as “Stone Woman”. After a 15-minute ferry ride, you will observe iguanas and bats along the riverbank.

The hand-cranked ferry will take us across the Mopán River to Xunantunich. We will then drive 1 mile to begin our exploration. Our guide will share insights into Mayan Archeology as we walk through the understory.

As we approach the heart of the city, we will see “El Castillo”, which stands approximately 130 feet tall (39 meters) and is the second tallest man-made structure in Belize. Climbing to the top offers a 360-degree view of the surroundings.

We will visit the Central Plaza, the Ancient Mayan Ball Court where Pok-A-Tok was played, residential areas, and the Astronomical Observatory, important for determining agricultural cycles.

After the tour, we will return to San Ignacio, with drop-off at the office or your hotel between 12:30 pm and 1 pm.
