Matera Excursion

Participants will be picked up early in the morning at their hotel in Palinuro and travel by bus to Matera. The tour will emphasize exploring one of Italy's most intriguing locations.

Upon arrival, a tour of the center of Matera will begin, highlighting the Sassi, dwellings declared a World Heritage Site in 1993.

The tour includes visits to the Sasso Barisano and Sasso Caveoso, with insights into the city's history from the 1950s to its recognition as a European Capital of Culture in 2019.

Participants will see significant Baroque temples including the Matera Cathedral, Church of San Francesco d'Assisi, and Church of Santa Chiara.

After a break for lunch, those interested may visit some of the notable rock churches of Matera, such as the Church of Santa Maria di Idris, Church of San Pietro Barisano, and Church of Santa Lucia alle Malve.

The excursion concludes with a return bus journey to Palinuro.
