Join this exciting excursion to Matera and get to know one of the 2019 European Capitals of Culture.

Matera Excursion

Early in the morning, we will pick you up at your hotel in Palinuro and travel by bus to Matera. Prepare for an exploration of one of Italy's noteworthy locations.

Upon arrival, we will start a tour of Matera, recognized for its unique dwellings known as Sassi, declared a World Heritage Site in 1993.

The tour includes visits to Sasso Barisano and Sasso Caveoso, where our guide will discuss the history from the living conditions in the 1950s to Matera being named a European Capital of Culture in 2019.

As we walk through the city center, we will observe important Baroque temples, including Matera Cathedral, Church of San Francesco d'Assisi, and Church of Santa Chiara.

After a brief lunch break, those interested may visit some of the famous rock churches of Matera, such as the Church of Santa Maria di Idris, Church of San Pietro Barisano, and Church of Santa Lucia alle Malve.

At the end of the excursion, we will return to Palinuro by bus.
