Matera Excursion

Early in the morning, we will pick you up at your hotel in Palinuro and travel by bus to Matera. Prepare to explore one of Italy's most fascinating locations.

Upon arrival, we will tour the center of Matera, recognized as one of the world's oldest cities, known for its unique dwellings, the Sassi, declared a World Heritage Site in 1993.

During the tour, we will visit the Sasso Barisano and Sasso Caveoso, while our guide shares the history from the living conditions of the 1950s to the present day and Matera's designation as a European Capital of Culture in 2019.

As we walk through the area, we will see significant Baroque temples, including the Matera Cathedral, the Church of San Francesco d'Assisi, and the Church of Santa Chiara.

Following a break for lunch, those interested may visit famous rock churches such as the Church of Santa Maria di Idris, Church of San Pietro Barisano, and Church of Santa Lucia alle Malve.

At the end of the excursion, we will return to Palinuro by bus.
