Join this exciting excursion to Matera and get to know one of the 2019 European Capitals of Culture.

Matera Excursion

Early in the morning, we'll pick you up at your hotel in Palinuro and travel by bus to Matera. The tour includes visiting Matera, one of the world's oldest cities, renowned for its unique dwellings, the Sassi, recognized as a World Heritage Site since 1993.

The itinerary includes exploring the Sasso Barisano and Sasso Caveoso districts, where our guide will provide insights into Matera's history, from the 1950s living conditions to its title as a European Capital of Culture in 2019.

As we walk through the center, we'll see important Baroque temples, including the Matera Cathedral, the Church of San Francesco d'Assisi, and the Church of Santa Chiara.

After a short break for lunch, those interested can visit notable rock churches such as the Church of Santa Maria di Idris, the Church of San Pietro Barisano, and the Church of Santa Lucia alle Malve.

At the end of the excursion, we'll return to Palinuro.
