Paestum Excursion

After pickup at your hotel in Palinuro, we will travel by minibus to the archaeological park of Paestum for a tour of three Doric temples dedicated to the goddesses Hera and Athena.

Upon arrival at the archaeological site, we will explore this ancient city, originally called Poseidonia, later renamed Paistom and then Paestum. We will first visit the Temple of Hera I, constructed in 550 BC, noted for its enneastyle front.

Next, we will visit the Temple of Neptune (or Temple of Hera II), the largest temple in the park, whose dedication remains debated among scholars; it may be attributed to Hera, Zeus, or Apollo. Subsequently, we will move to the Temple of Athena, the smallest, displaying both Doric and Ionic columns.

After exploring the archaeological area, designated a World Heritage Site in 1988, we will proceed to the park's museum, which features a collection of artifacts from the surrounding areas of Paestum, including grave goods from the Greek and Lucanian necropolis, vases, weapons, and frescoed tomb slabs.

We will conclude our museum visit with the highlight, the frescoes of the Tomb of the Diver, representing a unique Greek painting from the classical age, symbolizing the transition from life to the afterlife.

After a day of exploring Paestum's historical and artistic heritage, we will return you to your hotel in Palinuro.
