Paestum Excursion

On this excursion, you will visit the Temple of Hera I, Hera II, and the Temple of Athena, three significant Doric temples of Ancient Greece. After hotel pickup in Palinuro, we will travel by minibus to the archaeological park of Paestum for a tour of these temples.

Upon arrival, we will explore the city of Magna Graecia, founded as Poseidonia and later renamed Paestum. The tour begins with the Temple of Hera I, the oldest temple dating back to 550 BC. We will then proceed to the Temple of Neptune (Hera II), whose dedication remains uncertain, with common theories suggesting Hera, Zeus, or Apollo as possible deities. Finally, we will visit the Temple of Athena, which features a mix of Doric and Ionic columns.

After touring the archaeological area, a World Heritage Site since 1988, we will continue to the park museum, which contains artifacts from the region, including grave goods from the Greek and Lucanian necropolis, vases, and frescoed tomb slabs.

The highlight of the museum is the frescoes of the Tomb of the Diver, showcasing Greek painting from the classical age and illustrating the transition from life to the afterlife.

The excursion concludes with transportation back to your hotel in Palinuro.
