Paestum Excursion

On this excursion, you'll visit the Temple of Hera I, Hera II, and the Temple of Athena in the archaeological park of Paestum. After hotel pickup in Palinuro, we will travel by minibus to the site.

At the archaeological site, we will explore the city of Magna Graecia, previously known as Poseidonia. The tour begins with the Temple of Hera I, the oldest of the three, constructed in 550 BC. Next, we will examine the Temple of Hera II, also known as the Temple of Neptune, which is dedicated to either Hera, Zeus, or Apollo, with its attribution to Neptune being disputed. Finally, we will visit the Temple of Athena, the smallest temple featuring both Doric and Ionic columns.

After touring the archaeological area, declared a World Heritage Site in 1988, we will proceed to the park museum, which displays artifacts from the surrounding areas of Paestum, including grave goods from Greek and Lucanian necropolises, vases, and weapons.

The highlight of the museum is the frescoes from the Tomb of the Diver, representing a unique example of Greek painting from the classical age and Magna Graecia, symbolizing the transition from life to the afterlife.

After exploring the historical and artistic wealth of Paestum, we will take you back to your hotel in Palinuro.
